General Questions
What is the difference between renovation and remodel?
A renovation generally refers to a space that is refreshed without major modifications to a layout or changing its purpose. In other words, basically leaving everything in the same location.
On the other hand, a remodel transforms and changes the form, purpose and/or layout of a space such as moving drain locations of sinks, bathtubs, showers, etc..
How long is the work guaranteed for?
Under section 2120 of the Civil Code, the contractor must guarantee the work for one year against poor workmanship that exists at the time of the acceptance of the work, or that is discovered in the year following the acceptance of the work.
This guarantee does not cover apparent poor workmanship and apparent defects that have not been disclosed by the client at the moment the work is accepted.
How do progressive payments work?
Once the initial deposit has been paid and the work has begun, incremental payments established by percentages are made for each stage of work completed, from the totality of the project.
These percentages are generally listed in the contract for each of these stages.
Why Is it important to pre-purchase all your materials before the beginning of a project?
Pre-purchasing all materials before the beginning of a project is essential for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures that the project can proceed smoothly without delays due to waiting for materials to arrive. This helps maintain momentum and keeps the project on schedule, minimizing disruptions and potential cost overruns.
Additionally, pre-purchasing allows for thorough planning and coordination of materials, ensuring that everything needed for the project is accounted for and available when required. It also provides an opportunity to inspect materials for quality and suitability, allowing any issues to be addressed before work begins. This is especially true since the pandemic. Overall, pre-purchasing materials helps to streamline the construction process, optimize efficiency, and ensure a successful outcome for the project.

Can the brick siding on my house be painted?
Yes, it definitely can so long as a masonry paint is used that is designed specifically for stucco, stone and concrete surfaces. Do not use regular or non-approved paint by a supplier as the brick is porous and must be able to dissipate any moisture build-up with-in itself.
I don’t like the color of my front door and garage door(s), can I have them painted?
Do I seal, stain or paint my deck?
Whether to seal, stain, or paint your deck depends on your preferences, the type of wood your deck is made of, and the look you want to achieve. Here’s a breakdown of each option:
1. Sealing your deck involves applying a clear or tinted sealant that penetrates the wood to protect it from moisture, UV rays, and mildew. Sealants are a good option if you want to maintain the natural appearance of the wood while providing protection. They typically require reapplication every 1-3 years, depending on the product and weather conditions.
2. Staining your deck adds color while still allowing the wood grain to show through. There are two types of stains: semi-transparent and solid. Semi-transparent stains provide a subtle color change and allow the wood texture to remain visible, while solid stains offer more intense color coverage and can hide imperfections in the wood. Stains also provide protection against UV rays and moisture and usually need to be reapplied every 2-5 years.
3. Painting your deck offers the most color options and can completely change the look of your outdoor space. However, unlike sealants and stains, paint forms a film on the surface of the wood, which can be prone to peeling and chipping, especially in high-traffic areas. Paints also require regular maintenance and may need to be repainted every 2-5 years, depending on weather conditions and foot traffic.
When deciding which option is best for your deck, consider factors such as the amount of maintenance you’re willing to do, your desired look, and the climate in your area. Additionally, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for preparation and application to ensure the best results and longevity for your deck finish.
